10 Spring & Summer Trends To Look out For in 2019

Spring is a little over a month away and before we know it, SUMMER WILL BE HERE! I am so excited, I keep daydreaming about going to the beach and the weather being warm! It’s safe to say I definitely have the winter blues. I am so sick of it being below 30 degrees and the skies looking grey. This post is going to be about 10 spring and summer trends to look out for in 2019! Some of these trends I’ve seen from SS19 fashion shows, in magazines, new arrivals from my favorite online brands, and from the instagram pages of my fav fashion bloggers.

Utility

According to Vogue, this may be the new “it” piece of the season – “an all-in-one suit is now your go-to wardrobe solution”. And to be honest…I kind of love it. It doesn’t get more simple than this! But I feel like there is a certain way to wear a jumpsuit without looking like a sac of potatoes. I love how you can incorporate the “utility” trend into many styles like a dress, a belt, a top, etc. At the Hermès SS19 fashion show, they incorporated lots of color to their jumpsuits while Stella McCartney went for a more neutral vibe.

I think my favorite pieces out of this lineup has to be the two denim Princess Polly jumpsuits. They don’t seem baggy and I will always love a good denim on denim moment.

Linens

Linens have always been a trend in the spring and summer time. But for this season in particular, beige and neutral colors have really hit the runway hard. So I figured I’d incorporate the neutral colors with an all time classic material – linen. Especially in the summer with a nice tan, beige colors look so flattering on. Also, linen material tends to be pretty airy, so it will keep you cool during the warmer months.

Right now I am crushing on the tan-ish jumpsuit and the pants from Princess Polly. Jumpsuits are so easy to put together because you already have the top and bottom picked out for you – the hardest part is done! All you need to do is accessorize! And the pants are soo cute! They can be so easy to style in the spring and summer.

Seashell Jewelry

When I was younger, I would always walk along the beach with my grandma collecting seashells hoping to find ones with small enough holes to attach a string and make a necklace out of it (which I’m sure everyone has done at some point at the beach). I guess I was just ahead of my time because I am seeing seashell jewelry EVERYWHERE – from Verge Girl to Princess Polly, Sabo Skirt to Style Addict! This seems like a huge trend for spring and summer.

I don’t think I can pick a favorite, but if I really had to choose I think I would pick the chocker (I already purchased) from Forever 21. The earrings are adorable as well.

Puffed Sleeves

I never thought I would like puffed sleeves because I figured they would make my shoulders look more broad than they already are, but I must say, I think I am really liking this trend (to an extent). I like a small puff, nothing too major (like what they wore in the 80s). Along with many other brands, Revolve, in particular, has a large variety of tops and dresses with puffed sleeves. Many of the tops with the puffed sleeves are complimented by a square neckline, which in my opinion looks so flattering on. During the SS19 fashion shows, Saint Laurent had an array of dresses with puffed sleeves that I thought were adorable.

For my personal style, I think I am going to stick with the smaller puffs. I do think the sleeves can make a simple shirt more feminine, along with the square neckline to compliment it.

Tailor-Made

I have seen this look everywhere on the runway during the SS19 fashion shows. From bright and bold matching trousers and blazers, to neutral tones and beige colors, the “tailor-made” trend is definitely big for spring. It creates a put-together look that is timeless and effortless. Many fashion bloggers I follow have been taking this trend and creating a more casual look by pairing straight leg trousers with a simple white tee and chunky sneakers.

A matching suit has never been my first choice when picking an outfit…I don’t even think I own a matching blazer/trouser set, BUT I do think both pieces are staples in ones wardrobe. I am really liking the casual twist to a “tailor-made” look by pairing a nice white tee with trousers. Definitely going to try out that look for spring!

Belt Bags

Belt bags became a HUGE trend last year when super-models Bella Hadid and Haley Baldwin made the fanny pack cool. That snowballed into many brands creating their version of a fanny pack bag which then turned into a belt bag. My favorite version of the belt bags have to be from Sabo Skirt and Princess Polly.

I for one don’t think I can wear a fanny pack and think it’s cool, but I will definitely try one of the smaller belt bags. I actually really like the see-through belt bag from Sabo Skirt. It can add something special to an outfit without being so in your face.

Animal Print

I thought animal print was only going to be the “to-go” trend in the winter only, but apparently its here to stay for spring and summer (something I am not mad about)! Animal print was back on the runway in Nicole Miller and Tom Ford’s SS19 fashion show. From clashing prints to evening wear, I don’t think animal print is going anywhere for a while.

I will always love a good cheetah print top or snakeskin shoes, so even if animal print isn’t a “trend” anymore, you can bet I will always have it in my wardrobe. Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot bloggers layering the silky dress (in the first photo) with a tee shirt underneath. I think this dress can be the perfect item to transition from spring to summer. Pairing the dress with a black long sleeve sweater can be the cutest outfit while it’s still cold in the spring. Transitioning into summer, pair the dress with a thin white tee shirt and you’re ready to go!

French Girl Style

I haven’t seen too much of this style on the runway, BUT my favorite online stores have definitely been incorporating the “french girl” style into their brand. For example, Verge Girl literally has a trend page called The French Girl. I’ve also seen similar pieces on Princess Polly as well (a brand I have been obsessed with lately). It’s such a girly style with the structured bodices, slightly puffed sleeves, silky material, and floral detailing. It screams spring and summer to me.

For this trend I really can’t pick a favorite. I absolutely love this style and I will probably be purchasing everything you see above. Pretty sure I’ve already bought a few of these items…lol. They are basic pieces, but with a cute and girly twist. I also love how versatile every piece can be – there are so many ways you could style one item. Definitely a go-to trend for spring and summer.

Biker Shorts

Biker shorts graced the catwalk last season and are back to take over major street style looks for spring and summer 2019. From my favorite bloggers rocking the biker shorts to Chanel and Fendi creating amazing designer looks, biker shorts continue to be a street style hit. There are so many ways to style biker shorts as well. You can pair it with an oversized blazer and some strappy heels, or go for a more casual look and wear an oversized tee shirt with some chunky sneakers.

If I am going to try and rock this look, I think I am going to have to take baby steps and start out with wearing the simple black pair…we’ll see…I would like to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to trends, but I’m not sure if I can rock these…I’ll try though!

Barely there Shoes

Barely there sandals have been a big trend in many brands like Tony Bianoc, Sabo Skirt, Princess Polly, etc. They are the perfect shoe to go with any outfit. My favorites are probably the mules from Sabo Skirt. I have never seen anything like it on the market and the woven material makes the shoes a perfect staple for spring and summer.

It’s safe to say I love all of these trends for spring and summer! I’m always going to love animal print, I’m crushing on that denim broiler suit, and I’m particularly obsessed with the whole “french girl” trend. The biker shorts, belt bags, and tailor-made trends will definitely be pushing me out of my comfort zone, but we’ll see if I can figure out a way to style them. I hope this post was helpful and inspires you to try some of these spring and summer trends of 2019!
