Get to know me: quick facts and a Q+A

Hi friends! Long time, no talk! A while ago, I posted on my Insta story to ask me anything to get to know me better and I would answer in a blog post! I got a lot of great questions, but hadn’t had enough time to sit down and write a blog post answering them. I recently just reached a small goal of mine which was to get 4K followers on Instagram (YAY!) So I thought this would be the perfect time to write down some quick facts and make a Q+A blog post so all the new-comers could get to know me a little bit better!

10 quick facts about me:

  1. I am 22 years old (23 on September 19th) and I’m 5ft9in tall. I posted one of those quizzes on Instagram where people can try to guess the right answer and I asked “how tall do you think I am?” Only a small number of people guessed the right answer (and it was majority of people who know me IRL). So many of you did not think I was 5’9 haha
  2. I am the oldest of three kids – I have a younger sister and brother.
  3. I have worn the same two bracelets on my left wrist for probably 6 or 7 years now.
  4. I would say I’m an extrovert and an introvert. I love seeing my friends, hanging out and socializing. But I also love to be by myself, say no to going out sometimes, and having my alone time.
  5. I don’t really like a lot of fruit, and bananas GROSS ME OUT! I do like pomegranates though – such a random fruit to like lol.
  6. I never considered myself “fashionable” in high school and if you told me back then that I would eventually make a fashion blog, I would’ve laughed.
  7. I went through a very preppy phase towards the end of high school and kind of the first year of college – wore Vineyards Vines, Lily Pulitzer, the whole nine yards… cringe…yeah not anymore lol
  8. I used to Irish dance when I was younger and was pretty good, but wanted to stop so I could play sports – Irish dancing was very time consuming and I started to fall out of love with it.
  9. I have 3 tattoos – you’ll read more about them in the Q+A below!
  10. My family has two dogs, Chauncey was a Cavalier King Charles and Mcduff is a Cockalier (we lost Chauncey a few years back). But Mcduff is almost 14 years old! We came up with the name, Mcduff, by combining our last name, McCormack, with my mom’s maiden name, Duffy, to come up with Mcduff. Anddd I love him with my whole heart!

Q+A

Question 1: What is your profession? Do you blog full time?

No, I do not blog full time, only part time which is perfect for me atm – a hobby I love and an awesome creative outlet for me.
My major in college was Pharmaceutical and Healthcare marketing and I currently work as a rep for a medical device distributorship. Mostly on the cardiac side and I’ve learned soooo much this past year. I’ve been able to watch multiple cardiac procedures and talk to some of the best cardiac surgeons out there – it’s a really awesome job and I love the fact that what I am doing is helping someone else.

Question 2: What do your tattoos mean/How many tattoos do you have?

So I have 3 tattoos! One on my wrist, my foot, and ribs. All of them are around the size of a quarter. I love simple, minimalistic tattoos and each one has a special place in my heart. The first tattoo I ever got was in Madrid and it’s a small sun on my wrist that I got in honor of my mom! She used to sing the song “you are my sunshine” to me when I was younger and I wanted to get it for her cause she’s my best friend and it will always remind me of her when I look at it – don’t know what I’d do without her!

The second tattoo I got was literally 2 weeks after I got my first one in Madrid (lol) and me and my friend, who I was studying abroad with, wanted to get a matching tattoo. It’s on the side of my foot and it’s a hieroglyphic that means ‘travel’.

The third and final tattoo I have is one that I got with my younger sister. And this one I did not get in Madrid lol!! It’s on my ribs and it’s a small roman numeral 5 that we got to represent the 5 people in our family – mom, dad, me, Katie, and our younger brother Daniel.

Question 3: How would you describe your fashion sense?

I would describe my fashion sense as very eccentric! I wouldn’t say my style is 100% girly or 100% boho or 100% edgy – I love a bunch of different styles. One day you can find me wearing a girly pink dress with kitten heels, the next I’ll be wearing a band tee with biker shorts and docs. It’s all about how I am feeling and what I think looks cute together.

Question 4: How/why did you decide to start blogging?

I’ve always loved fashion. I didn’t always understand it and I never thought I had an eye for it. But as I have gotten older, I’ve come into my own and I understand what I like and don’t like, along with what looks good on my body type. I also love change and I’m all for trying new trends. Recently over the years, my friends and family have asked where I’ve gotten certain pieces, tell me they like my style, or ask me for fashion advice in general. So, one day I was sitting on my couch and said to my mom, “I think I want to start a fashion blog.” And she said go for it! Honestly, I am so freaking happy I started. It’s been the most fun putting together outfits and creating content for my blog and Instagram. It still blows my mind that I have the opportunity to work with so many amazing brands with whom I’ve shopped from for so long. I am truly grateful and so appreciative!

Question 5: How do you take & edit your IG photos?

I get this question all. the. time. This is probably one of my most asked question on Insta. I don’t want to give away all my tips and tricks, so here is the short version:

Main editing apps: Lightroom cc Mobile, Retouch, VSCO

Lightroom: this is the first app I put a photo into. This app helps me manipulate the lighting, exposure, contrast, shadows, color, etc. I normally like less contrast and softer whites and highlights.
I know a lot of bloggers use Lightroom Presets on their photos and they turn out gorgeous! But I personally think the are too harsh and I never like how they look on my photos.
Retouch: retouch is a great app to photoshop any junk out of a photo like an unwanted pimple, awkward lines, garbage, etc.
VSCO: vsco is the holy grail of filters. This is where I add my go-to filter, some grain, and tweak the lighting a little bit more if I think its necessary.

As far as who takes my photos, it’s usually my bf (lol love him, he’s the best), my mom or my sister! I’ve recently started using a tripod to help take my photos when absolutely no one is around to help, and I sort of enjoyed it! It was a little tricky to focus the camera at some times and I probably look crazy taking photos by myself with a tripod, but hey, it gets the job done.

Well, there ya have it! I hope you got to know me a little bit better and if you have any questions you want me to answer, feel free to write them down below or DM me on Instagram!

xo, Maggie
