Influencer Media Kits 101

Hello angels! Welcome back to the blogpost recapping everything from my “How To Become An Instagram Influencer” series on YouTube. In episode 2, we are going over everything regarding MEDIA KITS!

What is a media kit & why do I need one?

If you are an influencer, content creator, blogger, all of the above.. it is very important to have a media kit in order to pitch yourself to brands and monetize your platform. So what is a media kit?

Great question! To put it plainly, a media kit is basically a digital resume for bloggers and influencers. It highlights who you are as a creator, what your platform is about, all of your social media analytics/demographics, past partnerships and work you’ve created.

As an influencer, part of your job is to do brand outreach – pitching ourselves to brands for collaborations and sponsorships. Having a media kit is a great way to leverage your professionalism as an influencer and having a quick-stop-shop to show brands everything they need to know about you.

What Do I Need To have In My Media Kit?

About Me

Having an about me section is a great way for brands to get to know who you are and what your platform is about. Are you a fashion influencer? Lifestyle influencer? Travel blogger? Let ’em know!

Don’t be afraid to show off your personality in this section as well! I know it can be awkward to write about ourselves and hype up all of our amazing qualities (😉), but this can be a great way to hook the brand and show them you are someone they want to work with.

Make sure to include the following information: your name (duh), what type of influencer you are, where you are from, and what your platform is about.

Analytics & Demographics

Whether you have a media kit or not, brands are always asking for your analytics. This information is so easy to find and a necessity to have in your media kit. Go to your instagram > Insights and boom, there is all of your info.

You should include the following information: follower count, impressions, reach, engagement rate, and demographic numbers. For me personally, I add the percentage of women and the percentage of the highest age range of women that follow me.

Here is a great website that automatically calculates your engagement rate for you: https://www.tanke.fr/en/instagram-engagement-rate-calculator-2/

Previous Collaborations

This is where brands get a gist of who you have worked for in the past. I like to list some of the major brands I have worked with first and go from there. This leads me into talking about recent work/photos.

Photos/Recent work

This is where the brand get can a visual representation of the type of content you can create. You can post a few photos with descriptions from past collaborations or you can post an entire gallery – that’s completely up to you! But this is a great way for the brand to gauge what type of content you’ll likely be creating for them if the decide to move forward with a collaboration.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and a HUGE part of our job, so I like to scatter a bunch of my content throughout my media kit for the brand to see.

Other Social Media Platforms

As an influencer, you are most likely on other social media platforms as well like Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok, etc. If you can offer services on these platforms in addition to Instagram, it’s good to mention some stats for these guys. I usually like to add the follower count/monthly views.

OKAY, here is where you can wrap it up! I always like having a thank you page or thank you for your consideration page – it seems polite to me. It’s also important to have some CTA clickable links: your email, social media platforms, website, etc.

How long does my media kit need to be?

Your media kit can be as long or short as you want, but from my experience, it’s better to have a media kit that is MAX 4 pages long. Brands don’t have all day to sift through all of the amazing content you have created, so having a media kit that highlights your best content is the way to go.

It’s best to have your digital media kit in a PDF format.

When do I need to use my media kit?

There are a couple encounters when you would send your media kit to a brand. One, if a brand reaches out to you for a potential collaboration, and they request to see your insights or media kit.

Two, when you are doing your brand outreach, you can attach your media kit to the email for their review. It looks super professional to a brand when you have a stellar media kit for them to look at – and they didn’t even have to ask for it!

Where can I make my own media kit?

You can make your media kit on any photoshop/graphic design platform. I have always used Canva because 1) it’s free, 2) it’s user friendly, and 3) you don’t need any prior graphic design skills to make it look good.

If you don’t have time to sit down and fully customize your own media kit, well then I’ve got you covered! I have created 3 Canva templates for you to buy & use.

It’s really simple to download, here are the steps:

  1. purchase my media kit template on Etsy
  2. you will be given a PDF file with a clickable link to access the template
  3. create a FREE Canva account (if you don’t have one already)
  4. then start customizing my pre-made template!

Add in your photos, insights, bio, and BOOM! You have an amazing and professional media kit ready to go! And how long did that take you? Maybe 15 minutes?! You’re welcome my friends!!
