Ever since I was in middle school and I had a Tumblr account, long hair down to my butt was literally all I wanted. On tumblr, you would see all of these summery photos of girls with the longest hair, by the beach, taking a cool photo. Thats when I decided, OK! I want to have hair that long! I literally became obsessed..
But, because my dumbass decided to straighten my (already naturally straight) hair everyday before school for almost 2 years, you can only imagine how dead my hair was. I googled, I youtubed, I looked up soooo many different ways to revive my dead hair without having to cut it. I was simply denying the inevitable – cut the dead ends to grow naturally long and healthy hair. Not something I wanted to accept. So I tried all the home remedies – egg yolk hair mask, coconut oil hair mask, macadamia oil hair mask, trust me I tried everything. Don’t get me wrong, my hair felt so soft after, but the only way to treat a split end is to cut off a split end.
So, I was fed up with putting eggs in my hair (and my mom was fed up with me wasting all of her good eggs), and I decided to cut off 6 inches. Once I chopped that much off, I BARELY put heat to my hair because I was terrified of damaging it that bad again. Today, I am a little bit more comfortable with putting heat to my hair. Whenever I have events to go to, or if I want my hair done for a shoot, I do put some heat to my hair. I’ll blow dry my bangs or curl my hair. BUT, now I know you should be using heat protectant. And it’s not so damaging if you do it once in a while – I’ve come very far lol.
So fast forward a few months and years, and my hair has never been healthier. It got its natural shine back, it was growing, I had no split ends, everything was all good!! But for some strange reason, I couldn’t grow my hair past my chest. It never happened no matter how hard I tried! So I eventually gave up, cut my hair when I wanted and how short I wanted. Life went on, I started my blog, AND THEN! A dream happened.
